Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Last updated 2 September 2026

This explains what Pawtalk does with your personal data, as required by the GDPR. Plain language, because a policy nobody reads protects nobody.

What we collect

  • Your account - display name, username, email, password (stored hashed, never readable), and anything you choose to put on your profile.
  • What you send - messages, images, files and voice, so they can be delivered and so you can read them later.
  • How you use it - sign-in times, IP addresses and device details. This is how we spot break-ins and abuse.
  • Safety records - reports, filter hits and moderation decisions.

Why we are allowed to

  • To provide the service - performing our contract with you.
  • To keep people safe - our legitimate interest, and in the case of child protection, a legal obligation.
  • To meet legal duties - where a law requires us to keep or hand over something.

We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use your messages to train models.

How long we keep it

Account data for as long as the account exists. Messages until you or the server delete them. Security logs for a limited period. Records of serious safety decisions are kept longer, because deleting an account should not erase the reason it was removed.

Who else sees it

Our hosting and infrastructure providers, acting on our instructions, and law enforcement where we are legally required. Nobody else.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and take it elsewhere. Ask through support and we will answer within one month. You can also complain to your data protection authority - in Sweden, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY).

Children

Pawtalk is not for under-13s, and where local law sets a higher age for consenting to data processing, that age applies. See Child Safety.
